On November 22, in the Faculty of Physics of Yerevan State University a presentation dedicated to the 20th issue of “Vardanank” military-patriotic periodical was held in the auditorium named after the national hero “Leonid Azgaldyan”. It is noteworthy that the periodical has been publishing for a year and a half at YSU. On this occasion, the editor of the periodical, Hovhannes Vardanyan spoke about objective of this periodical. According to him, the objective of “Vardanank” military-patriotic periodical is to present the activities of “Vardanank” military-patriotic club, as well the freedom fighters of the university, the path of today’s heroes, military heroism, the absolute devotion to the homeland, and to contribute in the further strengthening of army-society relations.

“This list of heroes, Tatul Krpeyan, Tigran Sargsyan, Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan, Norayr Marutyan, Petros Ghevondyan, Vardan Stepanyan” today includes Leonid Azgaldyan’s name as well. Extensive articles that complete the path of their combat are written about them, revealing their heroic character of courage and dedication”, - said the editor.

The second part of the event was dedicated to the legendary commander, Leonid Azgaldyan’s 74th anniversary. Every year on this day, people that knew the hero, heard or read about him and his heroic path, gather in this auditorium named after him.

In the presentation, among the attendees were Artsakh hero, General-Mayor Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan (Commandos), Leonid Azgaldyan’s sister, the military fellows, relatives of the freedom-fighters of the university, students from various faculties, as well as the loyal readers, the members and the supporters of the periodical.

Leonid Azgaldyan’s military fellows shared their stories about him. The Artsakh hero, Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan talked about him, describing his compassionate, strict and demanding character. He recalled the difficult path that they have passed together, emphasizing that thanks to Azgaldyan’s high professionalism and sense of responsibility they were able to pass through the hottest spots of Artsakh war and they came out with honor under any task.

The Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Roland Avagyan, who was Azgaldyan’s colleague, as well as the freedom fighter Sargis Hatspanyan shared their memories and experiences with the attendees. They highly appreciated Azkaldyan’s role, by indicating that the modest commander, who won 27 battles without losing even once, was eagerly making sure that every volunteer in the battlefield is neat, prepared and responsible for any action.

Sargis Hatspanyan submitted the way the commander had been preparing during any operation, by calculating each and every step. He said that Azgaldyan would not have accepted a soldier that was ready to die; rather he was in need of soldiers that were ready to fight and gain a victory. “It was unacceptable for Leonid to make any risk during or after an operation, rather he would have been studied the situation from A to Z, and have been evaluated the consequences beforehand. Hence, he was the commander, who gave the least losses in the battle and gain victories in the hottest battle spots of Artsakh war”, - said Hatspanyan.

At the end of the event, a film dedicated to the path that “Leonid Azgaldyan” passed through.
